This is the black splendor adhere insect, a scarce species only discovered in a very small 12-acre space substantial in the mountains of northern Peru. Only found in 2005, not considerably is recognized about these bugs, but they are believed to be most lively at evening when their deep black coloration retains them hidden from predators. They are also armed with a gland at the rear of their heads which, when threatened, can spray a corrosive, powerful-smelling substance. Simply because their natural habitat is so tiny, their survival is precarious—thankfully, captive breeding initiatives might deliver these bugs again from the brink.
